The World Surf League’s TUDOR Nazaré Big Wave Challenge is back for 2026/2027. The waiting period opens November 1, 2026 and runs through March 31, 2027, and the one-day tow-in contest only goes when Praia do Norte in Nazaré, Portugal, delivers a solid swell of 25 feet or more with safe conditions.
Nine teams are invited. The six men’s teams surf two semifinals; each semi winner plus the best-scoring runner-up advance to a three-team Final for Best Team Performance, with individual scores counting toward Men’s Best Performance. The three women (Justine Dupont, Michelle des Bouillons and Laura Crane), each towed by a jet ski driver, surf a single Final for Women’s Best Performance.
Invited men’s teams include Nic Von Rupp and Clement Roseyro, Lucas Chianca and Pedro Scooby, Rodrigo Koxa and Vitor Faria, and Andrew Cotton and James Carew. Each surfer’s best two waves count, with the top wave doubled, for a maximum of 30 points. Invitees can still change before the green light.
