On October 27, Villa Vie Residences suspended operations aboard its “endless” cruise ship Odyssey in Sihanoukville, Cambodia, giving roughly 200 residents about eight hours to get off. Cambodian officials said the ship carried 203 passengers and 156 crew. The venture sold lifetime cabins for $119,999 to $439,999 plus monthly fees, but a delayed 2024 launch, financial trouble and a fuel price surge left it unable to cover losses, and a financing deal fell through. Some residents had sold homes and businesses to live aboard. Villa Vie says it is arranging temporary housing while it explores restructuring over the next 60 days, with no restart guaranteed.

The Villa Vie Odyssey promised a lifetime of traveling the world. Instead, its residents were given just hours to abandon ship.
