The story

Encinitas Surfboards opened in 1975. Founders Marc Adam and John Kies had worked together at Koast Surfboards, and when that shop closed they opened their own just up the street on the 101.

John had been shaping since 1969, and the shop still has that board-first feel: the smell of surf wax at the door and a back board room big enough to get lost in. It’s often called one of the last true ‘core’ surf shops in North County.

Alongside boards, fins, wetsuits and leashes there’s a full lifestyle side, from tees and hats to stickers, candles and calendars, so it’s an easy stop for gifts too.
